Third destination: Minimalist Scandinavian

With the latest COVID-19 developments, we might not be travelling up north this summer, but that doesn't keep us from dreaming. A warm and cozy Christmas break, maybe? Taking in the Scandinavian cold in February? We can not wait! Dressing Scandinavian means neutral tones, androgynous looks and preparing for the cold. We've selected a couple of rules to live by, so you will blend in with the Danes & Swedes effortlessly this winter. Ses snart!

Rule no. 1: Androgynous

Scandinavian fashion has an androgynous vibe to it. It's not that scandinavians are not feminine, they just like masculine shapes in clothing. Surprisingly, these masculine shapes accentuate the feminine features. Rocking the androgynous look is all about balance and contrasts. Combine a classic men's shirt with jeans and super sexy high heels, or wear your miniskirt with an oversized knitted jumper.

Rule no. 2: Tone it down

The Scandinavian colour palette consists of basic and neutral tones: grey, black, white and earth tones dominate Scandinavian wardrobes. Matching basic colours is easy, which makes it easy to create completely new outfits with only a limited amount of items. That's why our Nothern neighbours are more likely to invest in expensive, basic items.

Rule no. 3: Keeping warm: knits & layers

Winters can get extremly cold in Scandinavia, yet the cosy fika bars and hyggelige shops can be very warm. That's why it's essential to dress in layers & knits - things that keep you hot but can be easily taken off. Also perfect for our inconsistent Belgian weather!

Rule no. 4: Hotline bling

Jewelry is very important for the Scandi's, as it adds personality to every look. As their day to day looks are mostly pretty minimal, the Scandinavians are not afraid to wear a piece of statement jewelry to uplift their outfit.

Rule no. 5: (faux) leather

Leather is a must-have in every Scandinavian closet. A leather jacket is the perfect finish of an all-time classic look, and a leather pair of trousers is the ultimate cool-chick look, in combination with a white tee. But a leather skirt, dress or even playsuit makes any Scandi heart skip a beat too.

Rule no. 6: Duffle up

Like we've mentioned earlier, it gets cold in Scandinavia, really cold. So logically, their taste of fashion is influenced by this weather. The puffier, cosier and warmer the jacket, the better!

The key to Scandi Fashion is to be ànd look laid-back, sophisticated and uncomplicated.
