From Pretty Woman to Nine to Five

Classic movies fashion inspo

With streaming services relaunching some amazing old school blockbusters, we're ready to let our 80's and 90's selves be inspired by our favorite characters. Their romantic lives might not always have been that attainable - or even enviable, but their wardrobe sure was.

Pretty Woman

If there's one look that screams Pretty Woman, it's the skintight white and blue 'dress' that Julia's character Vivian wears when she meets her billionaire beau. A look that - even 30 years after the film's debut - hasn't lost its luster. Granted, it might be Julia's million dollar smile and the legendary status of the film that make this look so lustworthy, but this red, white and blue combination is one we're more than happy to repeat in 2021.

Not into Vivian's on-duty look? Then this red ensemble just might be the thing for you. This shorts suit is the perfect lockdown-meets-real life get up. Look at miss Roberts for a masterclass in how to wear. With short suits it’s all about proportions: opt for a long-line blazer and loose-fit Bermuda shorts that hit just above the knee.

Edward Scissorhands

When we think of Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, pastel colors are not the first thing to pop in mind. Yet the contrast between Johnny Depp's character and the suburbians is very on-brand for the eccentric director. It's a duality that is perfectly suited for spring's fickle forecast. But with temperatures rising, we're more drawn to the colorful wardrobe of young Winona and her clique.

Talking about fickle forecasts and color contrast, her white - almost wedding like - ensemble to his (p)leather look, fits right in. It's an outfit we're more than happy to parade in this season. Minus the snow, of course.

Nine to Five

With outfits like these you'll jump out of bed to get dressed before pouring yourself a cup of ambition. The movie 'Nine to Five' starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda is nothing less than legendary. Despite being a 40 year old movie, the office wardrobe of the comedy can easily be translated to 2021 business fashion. Then again, office chic never goes out of style. From a wardrobe staple white shirt to a fiery red dress to end the week in, here's a few looks to channel your inner boss lady.

Born in the late ’90s and early 2000s as a rebellion against minimalism, the trend, with its playful shapes, glossy textures, and unapologetic statement bags, is once again setting the pace.
