A Wonderful Women's Equality Day
Let’s start this off with a little bit of history. Women’s Equality Day has been established to commemorate the Nineteenth Amendment being adopted in the 1920s in the US. This Amendment finally guaranteed women the right to vote. Every 26th of August, Women's Equality Day commemorates the struggle of women to be heard and treated equally.
In our opinion, the best way to celebrate this day is to pay tribute to some amazing females that have made a massive difference for women in any possible way. Women who have each fought a battle for equalness. And what better way to honour these women than recreating their specific looks with some of our favourite brands.
Amanda Gorman
This 22-year old poet from L.A. became global news after Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021 where she recited a poem, despite her speech impediment. She became LA’s first Youth Poet Laureate at age 16 and, while studying three years later at Harvard University, was named the first National Youth Poet Laureate. In a section of her work we read ‘We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one.’
Lady Di
Diana embodies female empowerment. She refused to be only a royal and was determined to do greater things than just be a wife and mother. Diana was her own person and redefined what it meant to be a feminist as a royal. She wanted to help society and showed the world the great role also women can have in this world.
Amelia Earhart
In 1932, Amelia Earhart was the first woman to cross the Atlantic, from Canada to Ireland, as a pilot. She did this solo at a time where aviation was still a men only business. Amelia afterwards stated "Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.”
Marlene Dietrich
Hollywood actress Marlene Dietrich raised many eyebrows for proudly wearing suits in public. At that time, women wearing trousers was controversial, let alone wearing a whole suit. Brave Dietrich on her side even wore trousers to Hollywood premieres, which at that time completely inflamed the media.
Ann Wauters
We wrap up this list with our very own Ann Wauters, one of Belgium's greatest female athletes ever. She excelled in a sport that is mostly male oriented and where misplaced jokes are never far away. Ann has always been an example for female basketball players. And besides the great athlete that she is, she's also a loving mother to three beautiful children.
